Gerry Mcvey

I am a qualified Counsellor and Clinical Counselling Supervisor with over 25 years practice experience. I trained as an Integrative therapist, but I have leanings towards Person Centered Therapy. I have worked for big organisations like NSPCC and The National Autistic Society. I work with adults, children, families and couples.

I specialise in Attachment and trauma and use creative arts therapies such as music, art, animal therapy and eco-therapy. I love to work with neurodiverse people. I can use British sign language and Makaton to help people tell their story. I have worked with children in care, gangs and deaf and disabled children.

I am very approachable, and I adhere to always be my authentic self, which helps others to be theirs. I have experience of working with street drinkers in Birmingham where I ran a group for mothers. I was the chairperson for The NSPCC Deaf and Disabled workers group changing legislation for disabled workers. I worked for Arthritis Care where I ran personal development groups for young people with Arthritis. For 5 years I worked as an animal therapist supported disabled people to get back to work, using the healing properties of animals to give people their confidence back, enabling them to feel worthwhile so they could get back to work.

I love nature and believe that we can all experience well-being while being in the woods. I run well-being courses for families so that they can bond again in the beauty of nature. I have ran sea swimming sessions for deaf children with complex needs, helping them to ground themselves. I like to work in a diverse way with diverse people.

I have 25 years experience as a clinical supervisor for other practitioners which I really love. I enjoy guiding and supporting colleagues to also use creative arts therapies in their work.
